Initially, Viber was created in 2010 on the iPhone and on the Android platform in 2011. Final version to all users, was released on July 19, 2012. In 2014 Japanese company Rakuten bought Viber for 900 million dollars.
At the moment, Viber is available in 29 languages. According to Japanese company Rakuten, Viber worldwide has installed approximately 280 million users.
In Egypt, military personnel and their families are forbidden to use viber, as there are suspicions that the application is used to support a "Zionist spy".
