On November 14, 2024, the Students’ Club of Communicative English “3D” (Discuss. Debate. Decide.) began its activities. It is headed by senior lecturers of the English Department of the ESITC of the State University of Information and Communication Technologies Mariya Rostotska and Natalia Hlukhovska.
The first meeting of the Club on the topic “Introduction and different ways of addressing people. Likes and dislikes” was held in a game format. Interactive games “Self-portrait”, “Getting to know you”, “On the ice floe” created the atmosphere of trust and positive mood among students, encouraged them to speak, eliminating the fear of making mistakes in communicating in English, which is one of the main goals of the Club. Since the English language is a window into the world of different cultures and communication, the presentation “How to Address People” transported the students to the world of “good old England”, and caused a lively discussion when they compared the British and American styles in spelling and pronunciation while addressing people of different genders, ages and professions.
At the meeting teachers used innovative methods such as “brainstorming”, FAQs “at the round table”, “quizzes”, which created a relaxed friendly atmosphere, where “subtle” English humor prevailed.
At the end of the meeting, the students watched short thematic videos, played a competitive online game “KAHOOT” with their teachers, where there were no winners and losers, only there was the “aftertaste” of satisfaction that all of them had a very good time.
